SMA Negeri 1 Galing berdiri sesuai dengan surat Keputusan Pemerintah Daerah Nomor : 039 Tahun 2003 tentang operasional SMA Negeri 1 Galing tertanggal 07-09-2003 yang ditandatangani oleh Pemerintah Daerah, kemudian berdasarkan Salinan Keputusan Bupati Sambas No.17 Tahun 2005 tentang penyempurnaan atas lampiran Keputusan Bupati Sambas No. 53 tahun 2004 tentang perubahan nomenklatur Taman Kanak-Kanak, Sekolah Dasar, Sekolah Menenengah Pertama, Sekolah Menengah Atas dan Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan di Kabupaten Sambas tahun pelajaran 2003/2004, dengan nama SMA Negeri 1 Galing NSS 301610111024 dan NIS 300010 dengan status negeri yang beralamat di Jalan Raya Galing.
Pada saat gedung SMA Negeri 1 Galing belum selesai dibangun para siswanya melaksanakan proses pembelajaran di gedung sekolah seadanya dan masuk belajar pada siang hari yang dimulai pukul 12.30 sampai dengan 17.30 WIB.
Dari berdirinya sampai sekarang, SMA Negeri 1 Galing telah 3 kali mengalami pergantian Kepala Sekolah, yaitu :
